It is thanks to our importing partner Osito that we have been working for 7 years with Long Miles Coffee Project, an organization that has made transparency and support for Burundian producers the heart of its mission.

Gaharo Hill holds a unique place in the history of Long Miles: this is where it all began. The first washing station built by Long Miles sits at the foot of this hill, on a once-abandoned plot. The bricks were shaped from the clay of the valley, and it is the farmers of Gaharo themselves who built the station with their own hands. These same families now deliver their cherries to the Bukeye station, which they consider their own. The hill is also distinguished by a vibrant artisanal tradition: blacksmiths handcraft knives and agricultural tools there, a skill passed down from generation to generation. The farmers and Long Miles have grown, worked, and evolved together as a community, following the Burundian principle twese hamwe: together.

Grown between 2100 and 2200 meters above sea level, this coffee is made up of the Bourbon variety. The cherries are hand-picked at full ripeness, then floated and manually sorted to retain only the best before being depulped on the same day. The fermentation occurs in two stages: 12 hours dry, then 24 hours submerged in water before a rinse with fresh water and a density sorting. The coffee is then spread on raised African beds, where it dries slowly for 16 to 20 days under careful supervision, until it reaches a moisture content of 10.5%.
