It is thanks to our importing partner Osito that we have been working for 7 years with Long Miles Coffee Project, an organization that has made transparency and support for Burundian producers the heart of its mission.
Heza, which means "beautiful place" in Kirundi, lives up to its name. Accessible only by winding mountain paths and small handmade wooden bridges, this washing station perched at 1960 meters above sea level is more of an adventure than a simple visit. Isolated in the heart of the hills, it is surrounded by a community made up mostly of coffee farmers, who benefit from panoramic views of an ever-changing East African sky.
Grown between 1900 and 2100 meters above sea level, this coffee is of the Bourbon variety. The cherries are hand-picked at full ripeness, then sorted by flotation before being pulped. They then ferment in water for 12 to 18 hours, and are spread out on raised African beds where they slowly dry for 30 days under careful supervision.
